The quarterback situation is unsettled and the team won't find an answer until a week before the opener.  Kyle Wright was highly touted as a recruit, but he's just 14-7 as the starter and has won just two of eight games against Top 25 teams.  Kirby Freeman is more athletic and started the last four games of the season.  Javaris James is only a sophomore, but he had 802 yards on 175 carries a year ago and should remind people of his cousin Edgerrin James.  There are not a lot of good receivers on this team as Lance Leggett returns with his 38 catches for 584 yards and Darnell Jenkins and Sam Shields try to add a little spark.  The line should be one of the better parts of the offense.

The line is led by Calais Campbell who had 20.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 10.5 sacks a year ago.  He'll be joined by some big tackles who will have to keep blockers off a weaker linebacking corps.  There isn't a playmaker in the group and even the returnees can't be guaranteed their jobs.  Four starters return to the secondary in hopes of getting back to the tops in the nation when it comes to pass defense.  Free Safety Kenny Phillips should have a good chance at all-conference honors.

Miami has to go to Oklahoma the second week of the season which should give the team a good idea of where they stand.  After that a home game against Texas A&M will complete a tough non-conference schedule.  The home game on October 13th against Georgia Tech is important if the Canes want to contend for the ACC Championship game because a tough schedule sees them visiting Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Boston College.
