2007 Missouri Tigers Football Preview & Predictions

Now take a look at our 2008 Missouri Football Predictions!

With our 2007 Missouri Tigers football preview and predictions we see a great offense with the firepower to compete with anyone in the nation.  The problem with this team will come on the defensive side of the ball were there isn't a lot of experience.  As long as Chase Daniel is healthy then you will probably see this team involved in a lot of shootouts like they were last season.  The Tigers got out of the gates with a 6-0 start before dropping 4 of their last 5 games, but things are looking up for Gary Pinkel's squad.  If they can win at home against Nebraska on October 6th then the Big 12 North could be theirs.  Going to Oklahoma and and a home game against Texas A&M are the other two games on the schedule that will have the Tigers as small underdogs.  This team could make a splash on the national scene if things go right, but a top tier Big 12 North finish is likely either way.

Brad Smith was supposed to be as good as it gets for Missouri at quarterback, but the team didn't have to wait very long for the next big thing.  Chase Daniel came in and last year set school records for passing yards, touchdowns, and total yards with 3,527, 28, and 3,906 respectively.  He'll be the leader of the team and should help this team stay as potent as it gets offensively.  The team does return 98% of it's yards from scrimmage, so a letdown of the 30 ppg and 425 ypg isn't going to happen without unforeseen circumstances.  Tony Temple returns at running back and he racked up 1,063 yards and seven touchdowns on only 193 carries a year ago.  Daniel will also have plenty of guys to throw to.  Chase Coffman was the leading receiver a year ago with 58 catches, 638 yards, and nine scores but he's the second option at tight end.  There is also Martin Rucker who can catch the ball in the red zone.  At wideout Will Franklin will chase the 1,000 receiving mark as he is the deep threat to help move the ball down the field quickly.  The line has four returning starters, so Daniel should have plenty of time to find these targets.

Last year the run defense had problems at times as Missouri allowed at least 160 rushing yards in all but one Big 12 game.  This will most likely be another problem with both tackles and only one linebacker back from the front seven.  There isn't a lot of depth on the line either, but nose tackle Lorenzo Williams is fairly steady and managed 6 sacks from the inside last year.  Brock Christopher is the middle linebacker who returns after leading the team with 87 tackles last year.  He's going to have to help along a young group of outside linebackers, who have little to no college-level experience.  The secondary has only one returning starter, but three seniors.  Is that a good thing if these guys didn't have the talent to start on a weak defensive team in the past?
