2007 Motor City Bowl Odds & Predictions

The NCAA post-season will head to Detroit on December 26th for the 2007 Motor City Bowl between the Purdue Boilermakers and Central Michigan Chippewas.  These two teams played each other back in September down in West Lafayette with the Boilermakers coming out on top 45-22.  It seems like both of these teams have gone in opposite directions after their initial starts, as Purdue dropped five of their last seven while Central Michigan got their offense started in winning seven of their last nine.  If you want the inside track on any college bowl betting on this game, then you need to pick up a premium package of Jimmy Boyd's college bowl picks as he continues to beat the sportsbooks up this post season.

The Central Michigan offense continued to move the football as well as anyone by putting up 33.7 points per game (ppg) and gaining 271.8 yards per game (ypg) through the air and 179.1 ypg on the ground.  The key to their success has been quarterback Dan LeFevour who is only the second player in history to throw for more than 3,000 yards and run for 1,000 in the same season (the other was Vince Young).  He is the MAC's offensive player of the year and has plenty of talent all around him.  Defensively, this team is a completely different story as they are allowing 38 ppg against them with Kansas scoring 52, Purdue 45, and Clemson 70.  Basically as the caliber of competition gets better the defense folds even quicker.

Purdue will probably be looking forward to getting their offense back on track against a defense that doesn't mind giving up points.  The Boilermakers did manage to put up almost 33 ppg this year while allowing only 24.8, but struggled won the stretch in losing their last three games.  Curtis Painter is still a very talented quarterback who threw for 26 touchdowns compared to only nine interceptions and star receiver Dorien Bryant was a big reason for his offensive production.  Like the Chippewas though, the Boilermaker defense was non-existent at times.  Purdue did improve on that side of the ball though over a year ago and forced 27 turnovers in 12 games.

This game is going to be exciting because of the offenses involved, both teams will score and score often.  This should provide some exciting entertainment for the day after Christmas.
