2007 Navy Midshipmen Football Preview & PredictionsTake a look at our 2008 Navy Midshipmen Football Predictions! The 2007 Navy Midshipmen football preview and predictions article from Jimmy Boyd has now been completed. This school has really started to dominate the Commander-In-Chief series lately by winning four straight trophies. That senior class was also the first to graduate with four bowl appearances and this year's team will look to continue that tradition going. Last year this team went 9-4 after a loss to Boston College in the Meineke Car Care Bowl, and this year's team already has an invite to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl if they can get to six wins. We think they can, but the tough games will come at Rutgers early then in three of four weeks they take on Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and head to Notre Dame. Look for an 8-4 or 7-5 season out of the Midshipmen.
The offense returns eight starts from the team that led the nation in rushing a year ago, of course that was the team that finished last in passing. Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada has good poise and runs the option well, but he's not much of a passing threat as he had only 48 attempts as a sophomore. This run-first offense did lose three offensive linemen which might slow down the rushing attack slightly, but with three running backs returning there is plenty of experience in the backfield, led by Adam Ballard who had 154 carries for 792 yards as the fullback. There are three capable slot backs that will most likely split time with Shun White having blazing speed and Reggie Campbell who is a playmaker that can also catch passes out of the backfield. Zerbin Singleton is a mean blocker as well. At receiver there is only one returning starter, but that isn't really important when the team runs the ball so much. Defensively there is only a pair of returning starters and that could cause some problems early on. There is no experience at all among the front four, but the coaches think that at nose guard, sophomore Nate Frazier is the best prospect they have had at the position in years, and at end senior Casey Hebert is big enough and strong enough to step in and make plays. Clint Sovie returns at middle linebacker and he's fast enough to cover the entire field. Outside linebackers Matt Humiston and Matt Wimsatt have both seen some playing time and shouldn't take long to get into the swing of things. The lone returning starter in the secondary is cornerback Rashawn King, but the team needed work here anyway after ranking 85th in the nation against the pass last year. We hope you are ready for another great season of college football betting.
