2007 New York Jets Predictions & Season Preview

Now take a look at our 2008 New York Jets Predictions!

The different between last year's New York Jets and the 2007 version is that expectations went from low to high quickly.  Nobody saw Eric Mangini's first season going as well as it did, but this year the team is thinking it can make another run into the playoffs, especially since they only lost one starter.  Last year they basically won all the games they should have, but with a tougher path through the regular season that would result in fewer wins this year.

Chad Pennington was finally healthy a season ago, starting all 16 games and earning the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year Award.  He will actually have an entire off-season to get better, and his numbers should be improved this year.  Thomas Jones comes in from Chicago and will give the Jets the feature back they were missing out on last season.  The rushing attack was 20th best in the NFL a season ago, and he should bump them way up in the rankings.  Jerricho Cotchery was a pleasant surprise last season and Laveranues Coles was his steady self.  Together they had 173 catches, over 2,000 yards receiving, and 12 TDs.

The Jets played bend but don't break defense last year, ranking 20th in yards allowed but 6th in points against.  The team isn't all that impressed with what it has up front, with Shaun Ellis not being as productive as he once was, Dewayne Robertson being an undersized nose tackle, and Kenyon Coleman coming over from Dallas.  The linebackers are a little better, but could be much improved with some better play up front.  Bryan Thomas had a breakout season and Jonathan Vilma is steady in the middle.  Victor Hobson also benefited from Mangini with a career-high 6 sacks.  The secondary should get an upgrade if Pittsburgh's Darrelle Revis can be the lockdown guy they hop he can be.  Andre Dyson is another solid pass defender.  Kerry Rhodes and Erik Coleman were both pleasant surprises in 2006 at the safety spot.

Another big bet this season for us will be on the New York Jets over 8 wins.  Sure we think this team is going to miss out on the playoffs, but only because the AFC is so tough.  This team is on the cusp though and it wouldn't surprise us at all if they were a Wild Card, this means that we are staying away from the props on winning the division, conference, or NFL title, but we'll take the over.  If you want to beat the NFL odds on weekly basis then your best option is to pick up our NFL picks.
