2007 Nextel All-Star Challenge Predictions
The odds are out for this Saturday’s Nextel All-Star Challenge and we
have your 2007 All-Star Challenge Predictions right here.
It comes as no surprise that
Bodog lists Jimmie Johnson as the odds on favorite to win the event at
4/1 odds. He was last year’s Nextel All-Star Challenge winner and has won
seven races at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway-a feat his Lowe’s sponsorship has
to be happy about. If Johnson can prevail this Saturday night, it will mark
his fifth win of the season. Unfortunately this event does not count in the
Nextel Cup standings, but it does count in your bankroll as the $1 million
payout is a popular prize.
As good as Jimmie Johnson has been in 2007, his Hendrick Motorsports
teammate, Jeff Gordon has been better. Gordon will likely be Johnson’s
biggest threat to victory lane this week. Gordon made a gutsy call late in
the race at Darlington last week overcoming a leaky radiator to win his
third race of the season. He is the current leader in the Nextel Cup
standing edging out Johnson. Gordon is currently listed at 9/2 odds for this
Saturday’s event.
It’s going to be hard to bet against Hendrick Motorsports in the All-Star
Challenge as its Driver’s have won four straight races and eight of the last
nine. Even though this race does not figure into the Nextel Cup standing,
the Hendrick Motorsports team will want to make a good showing to keep its
momentum and the prize money isn’t a bad perk either.
One driver who may have the most motivation to win is Dale Earnhardt Jr.
With his recent break from DEI and his cheating allegations surrounding
illegal modification of the Car of Tomorrow at Darlington Raceway, Earnhardt
will be looking to save some face in front of his fans at this event which
is tailored toward the fans. As if his split from DEI didn’t put enough
pressure on him to perform, now he is going to have to prove that he can win
without cheating as even one cheating allegation causes some fans to
question a driver’s entire career. He shows much better value at 12/1 odds
than Gordon or Johnson, but even though he has the motivation, too much has
been going on for this young driver off the race track to take away from his
focus. Don’t expect to see him in victory lane any time soon.
It may not be a bold choice and it doesn’t show much value, but we have to
go with Jimmie Johnson on a track where he has had so much success. Unless
you can come up with a darn good reason not to side with Jimmie Johnson this
Saturday, I would be putting my money on him.May 17th, 2007
