2007 NFC West Predictions & NFL Lines

Written by -

Jimmy Boyd takes a crack at the 2007 NFC West with his NFL predictions and the four teams in the division. This is a group that has been dominated by Seattle in recent years, and things look to stay the same again this year. The other three teams all have a chance at contending as this division doesn’t really have a bottom feeder to pick on like the North and South divisions do. It’s going to be a dog fight in the West, but once again the cream will rise to the top.

1st Place – Seattle Seahawks – This is still the best team in the division, but will most likely be the final year of their reign out West. The team is starting to get old and their window of opportunity is closing, but we think they’ll play with a sense of urgency that will guide them to success this season. Hasselbeck and Alexander are still formidable at their positions, and Seattle has the best defense in the division. They also have the best coach in Mike Holmgren. With a lot of hype being placed on the other teams in the division, we are going with the Steady Eddie.

2nd Place – Arizona Cardinals – Everyone has gone from making Arizona the sleeper team to watch out for with their NFL betting to putting them in the bottom of the division. We won’t do the same. This team has too much talent on offense to flounder for long, especially in the West where it seems nobody wants to play any defense anyway. An easier schedule, a new head coach, and a year of experience under Leinart’s belt will have this team in contention for the playoffs.

3rd Place – St. Louis Rams – This could once again be the best offense in the league, but the defense just isn’t there to get this team where it wants to go. Marc Bulger and Torry Holt lead a dangerous passing game, and Stephen Jackson is a monster on the ground. Then you move to the other side of the ball where the Rams ranked second to last against the run and 28th in points allowed. The bad news is that there really wasn’t much of an improvement on that side during the off-season, so you can expect more exciting, yet inconsistent football in St. Louis with high NFL lines on the totals.

4th Place – San Francisco 49ers – With everyone talking about San Francisco being their sleeper in the NFC with their NFL football picks, but they can’t really be a sleeper can they? This team is going to have a target on their back and they aren’t going to surprise anyone. San Francisco somehow made it to seven wins last year, mainly because Frank Gore was such a beast. However, Norv Turner is gone, and he was a big reason for Alex Smith’s development as a quarterback last season. The defense added some big names, but Nate Clements now is the most overpaid player in the NFL. Mike Nolan has had all the right moves so far, but the team takes a step back this year.
