2007 Cincinnati Bengals NFL Draft Predictions

Get ready for the upcoming season with our 2008 Cincinnati Bengals Predictions & NFL Picks!

The Bengals' first concern is to clean up their off-the-field antics that commissioner Roger Goodell has not been to fond of over the past couple seasons. You can bet that Cincinnati will look into each player's background before selecting them in the draft. But that doesn't mean the Bengals can go out and select nothing but Boy Scouts. The last thing they want to do is return to their down years from the 1991 season up until 2004 where they were the laugh of the league.

The Bengals' biggest need is a tight end. Quarterback Carson Palmer does not have anyone that is half the talent of Antonio Gates, Tony Gonalez or even Alge Crumpler. With wide receivers Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a pass-catching tight end would cause fits for opposing defenses and make life much easier for Carson Palmer. Peyton Manning has Dallas Clark to check down to with dump passes when a play breaks down and that is exactly the type of player Cincinnati needs.

The Bengals might have their eyes on Arizona State's Zach Miller with the 18th overall pick. The 6-5, 259-pound Miller came to the Sun Devils as one of the best tight end prospects in several years. He reminds many scouts of Baltimore's Todd Heap, running great routes and has crafty blocking ability. Miller could turn out to be just the type of player the Bengals need to get back to the playoffs and make some noise in the tough AFC.

Cincinnati will be looking to improve their offensive line with the 2007 NFL Draft. Cincinnati ranked 26 th in rushing yards per game and there is no way running back Rudi Johnson is to blame. Willie Anderson is a solid tackle, but Palmer received more pressure than he is comfortable with last season. The Bengals have needs up and down the offensive line along with Anderson turning 32 this season.

The Bengals also hope to find some talent in the draft on the defensive line. Tackle Sam Adams is starting to slow down, defensive end Bryan Robinson only had 3 sacks last year, while John Thornton is average against the run and is no threat to collapse the pocket. A broken neck suffered by linebacker David Pollack last season may end his career. Cincinnati will have to address the outside linebacker spot in the later rounds of the draft. This team needs to improve in all aspects to become a playoff contender in 2007, but their first concern will be getting a pass-catching tight end with their first pick.
