2008 Indianapolis Colts
Predictions!
Indianapolis is one of those rare teams that could return to their Super Bowl
Champion form of a year ago. I don't think they will struggle like the
Pittsburgh Steelers did following their Super Bowl win. With Peyton Manning
making the calls to go along with his deadly weapons on offense, this team has a
great shot at making back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. That doesn't mean
there is no room for improvement, so the Colts will be looking to address their
concerns in the 2007 NFL Draft.

The Colts have significant defensive woes to fix as they
finished 32nd in the league against the run. Few teams have been able to do
what Indianapolis did on defense and come away with the ultimate prize. Bob
Sanders being injured didn't help, but he won't be the complete answer at
stopping the run each Sunday. He will need some help.
Indianapolis needs quality depth behind Raheem Brock and Anthony McFarland
at the defensive tackle position. Brock played well in the playoffs, but did
not produce during the regular season. McFarland was slowed by injuries and
there is no guarantees that he will hold up. With the last pick in the first
round, Michigan's Alan Branch and Louisville's Amobi Okoye will surely be
gone. However, California's Brandon Mebane might be right in Indianapolis '
sights. He is a powerful 300-pounder who excels against the run. Many teams
might be overlooking this kid which is exactly what the Colts hope for.
Cato June left to free agency as perhaps the best linebacker on the Colts'
team. That leaves only Robert Morris at the helm as the only proven backer
on their depth chart. You can bet the Colts will be looking to find a
linebacker on the first day to replace June as well. Dwight Freeney earned
the franchise tag, becoming a huge signee by the Colts this offseason. He
should reek havoc against opposing quarterbacks for the 2007 season as well.
The secondary needs new faces as well. Cornerback Nick Harper left to the
Titans and safety Mike Doss left to the Vikings in the offseason. Both spots
need filled vitally. The Colts will be looking for a top-notch corner and a
big-hitting safety in the later rounds to compliment Bob Sanders.
Maryland's Josh Wilson and Auburn's David Irons might be in the plans at
cornerback in the second round. Wilson is blazingly fast and even at 5-9, he
is a great leaper and capable of covering big receivers. Dominic Rhodes left
as a free agent at running back as well, leaving only Joseph Addai to man
the tailback position. On the second day of selections, Indianapolis has to
address this position to find a solid back-up for Addai in the 2007 NFL
Draft.
