2007 Miami Dolphins NFL Draft Predictions

Now check out our 2008 Miami Dolphins NFL Season Predictions!

The postseason departure of Nick Saban to Alabama means the Dolphins will be starting over again in 2007. The offensive guru Cam Cameron was hired as the new head coach in South Florida and brings over his knowledge on the offensive side of the ball from San Diego. The Miami Dolphins will be looking for a new offensive identity to compliment their already sound defense behind Jason Taylor, Joey Porter and Zach Thomas.

It starts with winning the battle in the trenches on the offensive line. Their running game was not productive despite having a great talent like Ronnie Brown in the backfield. They lacked a passing game despite having big-play receivers in Chris Chambers and Marty Booker to go along with a better-than-average tight end in Randy McMichael.

The biggest area of concern is at the Guard positions. Kendyl Jacox and L.J. Shelton have not lived up to expectations. Rex Hadnot at Center is overmatched and hasn't produced like the big-name centers of the Dolphins' past. If Daunte Culpepper is going to return to his old form at quarterback, he will need much help in protection from his interior offensive line.

Southern Cal's Ryan Kalil may be the best center prospect in the draft. He has a 6-3, 285-pound frame and the feet to get out on running plays. He is also very smart and wise when making line calls. Clemson's Dustin Fry should be available in the third or fourth round and would give Cameron a much bigger option at 6-3, 324 pounds. Fry is an aggressive and dominating run blocker.

They could use a defensive tackle such as LaMarr Woodley to compliment Keith Traylor. Traylor has been in the league for 16 seasons and still has a couple good years in him, but he is obviously nearing the end of his career. Woodley is a nasty hitter who may not be as big as some scouts would like, but is an explosive tackler who forced seven fumbles over the last 2 seasons.

Zach Thomas has a motor that is comparable to Brian Urlacher of Chicago, but he will be 34 to start the season. He has definitely lost a step and only has a few great years ahead of him. He needs help at the linebacker position, but this could come in the later rounds. The Dolphins have the 9th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, so look for them to snag a lineman in the first round and then work on there other areas of weakness through the later rounds.
