2007 NFL Odds Odds
to Win the NFL Rookie of the Year
If you think you know who the player from this year's draft is going to have
the most immediate impact then the odds to win the NFL rookie of the year
award could interest you. This is just another great prop bet offered by
the sportsbooks for those of you who like
betting on football futures. This is one of the tougher things to
predict as everyone in the general public loves the young quarterbacks, but most
times in the best interest of long-term growth these guys are holding clip
boards for a significant number of games. The reason the rookies are so
exciting to fans is that they don't just offer an immediate impact and turn a
contender into a playoff powerhouse, but these guys are the next stage of the
process.
In 2006 guys like Reggie Bush and Marques Colston lifted the Saints from the
basement of their division to the NFC Championship game and there were plenty of
contenders who got a boost like the Colts with Joseph Addai, the Patriots with
Laurence Maroney, the Ravens with Haloti Ngata, and the Bears with Devin Hester.
Plenty of other teams got significantly better even though they missed the
playoffs with Vince Young, Maurice Jones-Drew, Jay Cutler, AJ Hawk, and Matt
Leinart to name a few of these players.
You have to remember that historically, the offensive rookie of the year has
been won by the running back position. These guys are best able to come in
and join and NFL system because they don't have as steep of a learning curver as
some other positions. So here is our list of the most value:
Brandon Jackson is the number one bet we would recommend. He has talent
and he's going to get to carry the ball a significant chunk of times up there in
Green Bay with Ahman Greene being shipped off to Houston. He is a good
pass catcher who won't have to come off the field on third down and very few
public eyes will be on him, making him a great value at more than 20/1 at most
places. The favorite that we like is Marshawn Lynch of the Bills for many
of the same reasons. The team thought so much of this guy that they let
Willis McGahee walk to the Ravens. The only downside to Lynch is that
there are a couple other guys who are capable of carrying the load in Buffalo.
Calvin Johnson is on everyone's mind, but let's keep in mind a couple things,
the first is that Jon Kitna isn't going to throw 40 touchdown passes. The
second is that Mike Furrey had 93 catches in the slot, and Roy Williams is the
number one guy on the outside. This leaves Johnson picking up scraps in
his first year without a very big plate to eat from.
