2007 North Carolina Basketball Predictions &
Season Preview
When looking at the 2007 North Carolina basketball
predictions and season preview from Jimmy Boyd,
realize that he expects nothing less than this school to
make it to the Final Four this year. The team did
lose two of its top five scorers and two of its top
three rebounders, but the Tar Heels were deep enough to
absorb those losses and still they may be even better in
the upcoming season. Last year's team had the
talent but lacked in the experience department, this
year they should have both as 9 of the 12 guys return
from a year ago. After winning the ACC Tournament,
they fell short of their goals by losing to Georgetown
in the regional finals. Anything less than a
national championship this year will have to be
considered a letdown.

Brandan Wright departed for the NBA after his freshman season, but the Heels
still have plenty of fire power in the front court. Tyler Hansbrough will
be one of the first name's mentioned for the conference's MVP award and should
improve off his 18.4 ppg, 7.9 rbg, and 52.5% shooting from a year ago. He
is all-out hustle all of the time too which makes him a favorite with the home
crowd and a target in enemy buildings. When opponents send multiple
defenders his way, look for Deon Thompson and Alex Stepheson to contribute.
Both of these guys worked on getting stronger in the off-season and are more
than capable of coming in and putting up numbers. Thompson will most
likely be seen as the most improved player on the team. On the perimeter
the team has a couple of decent swingmen in Marcus Ginyard and Danny Green.
Ginyard is a physical player who is the best defender on the outside, while
Green can both shoot the three and block shots, a rare combo in the NCAA.
Roy Williams has depth at the point guard position in a conference that is
lacking at that spot overall. Ty Lawson is a sophomore who is quicker than
anyone else in the league and had an impressive 2.57 assists to each turnover a
year ago. Quentin Thomas is the lone senior who will be a solid backup at
the point and will enable Bobby Frasor to move to the off-guard. Frasor
started every game as a freshman but was hampered with injuries a year ago.
Wayne Ellington is an excellent outside shooter who will most likely start with
Lawson.
The college basketball odds on
North Carolina games are going to be big numbers this year, because this team
will be able to put up a lot of points that their opponents will find it hard to
match. While this might not be a school you find too often in Jimmy Boyd's
premium college basketball picks
package, we think their chances of making it to a national title are fairly
high. There are not going to be many teams who have the combination of
talent and experience like the Tar Heels do, and that's why they should stroll
through the ACC.
