North Carolina's woes start at quarterback, where they don't have a viable option as freshman TJ Yates will most likely be under center.  Cameron Sexton is another option, but he was fairly horrible in his limited amount of action a year ago.  Whoever is throwing the ball will have plenty of talent to throw to with four of last year's top five receivers returning.  Joe Dailey, last year's quarterback, also will be at wideout further adding to this group's strength.  There isn't a starter named yet at tailback either, as this group is very young as well.

The mystery from offense has bled over to the defensive line, where right now ten guys are fighting for four spots up front.  The leading tackler from a year ago is Durell Mapp, and he once again will stabilize the middle of the field at linebacker.  The corners are fast but raw.  It will be interesting to see if they develop into the kind of talents the coaching staff thinks they can.

There aren't a lot of good things to say about this year's team, but Butch Davis has come in and given the faithful hope.  It's not going to come this year, but a good freshman class could see brighter days ahead.  There are coordinators on offense and defense that have NFL experience, which draws recruits.  Home games against Virginia early and Duke in the finales will give the Tar Heels a chance at some wins, but the rest of the conference schedule doesn't hold much promise.
