The offense is in CJ Bacher's hands after he came in late in the season to give the Wildcats a spark.  He is going to have to cut back on his interceptions and be a little more careful with the ball, but Northwestern should average more than 16 ppg with him having a full year under center.  Running Back Tyrell Sutton was good for 1,000 yards last season on only 189 carries and the team is hoping he can make it three straight years of breaking the thousand yard mark.  At wideout Andrew Brewer is expected to be a go-to guy due to his athletic ability, but this is his first year at wideout after playing some quarterback last year.  The line is pretty questionable, but has three of five starters returning.

The Wildcats return eight starters on defense, but this side of the ball ranked 88th in scoring a year ago, and was anemic against the run.  All four defensive linemen return and Corey Wootton should add to the 5 sacks he racked up a year ago.  The midsection of the defense finds only Adam Kadela, but he had the most tackles out of anyone coming back.  In the secondary both safeties and a corner are back and the team adds a playmaker in sophomore Sherrick McManis.  This unit needs to make more big plays on third down to stop opponents from moving the chains through the air.

Northwestern gets three cupcakes at home to start the season but then gets Ohio State and Michigan to lead off Big Ten play.  There aren't a lot of teams that Northwestern will be favored to beat besides the home game against Minnesota, even though talent wise they are better than Illinois and Michigan State.  The problem with those two teams is Northwestern has to play them on their home turf.  The last home game of the year against Indiana is another one we have marked that Northwestern could walk away from with a win.  Expect more than their 4-8 record from a year ago, but a 2-6 record that mimics last season is probable.
