2007 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Preview & PredictionsNow take a look at our 2008 Notre Dame Football Predictions! Here is Jimmy Boyd's popular 2007 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football preview and predictions article. This is one of most popular schools in terms of the amount of college football betting done on them, so read up so you don't leave yourself on the outside looking in. Charlie Weis thinks that this team is going to do special things even though it's going to be flying under the radar, well at least as far under the radar as this team can get. This is all without Brady Quinn and six other offensive starters and only five returning starters on defense. The problem that Weis faces is that these new faces aren't going to have any cupcakes early to help them progress as the meat of the schedule happens early and often. The year starts out at home against Georgia Tech before the team heads to Penn State and Michigan, all three of these games are going to see Notre Dame as the underdog. Games at UCLA, at home against Boston College and then another home game against USC could easily lead this team to a .500 record without the team even losing a game they shouldn't. However, if a few breaks go their way then this coaching staff is good enough to get the team to 8-4 or so.
Youth and inexperience will be the labels placed on this year's quarterback, whether it's the highly touted Jimmy Clausen or Evan Sharpley. Sharpley is the frontrunner after the spring since he has been around for a couple of years as Clausen is a true freshman. There isn't a lot of experience at running back either, but Travis Thomas looks to return to tailback after moving to linebacker before last season. He is the leader of a talented stable that also includes James Aldridge and Armando Allen. Depth shouldn't be an issue so expect the running game to get a lot more attention than in years past. The receiving duties are led by tight end John Carlson, who is going to be a red zone machine this season. At wideout there is also David Grimes and George West. There isn't a lot of depth behind these two. The line will have to break in three new faces, but they are big and strong which should help the running game. The defense is going to be changing from the 4-3 to the 3-4 this year as defensive coordinator Corwin Brown takes over. The front three is going to be a questionable unit with players moving around and being a little undersized for their positions. After the front three though there is plenty of talent. At linebacker there is Maurice Crum, Toryan Smith, John Ryan, and Anthony Vernaglia. While only Crum was a starter last year, the talent is there, enough so to knock last year's starter Joe Brockington into a backup role for his senior season. In the secondary there is Ambrose Wooden and Terrail Lambert at cornerback, both of these guys are solid. Tom Zbikowski is a safety who is ready to have a standout year as he will be on pro scouts minds all year long. If you want to beat the college football odds this season then you could either take a chance and spend hours a day going over each of the matchups, or you can sit back, relax, and let the experts do all the heavy lifting. The college football picks that you get here at Locksmith Sports are the best in the business as we have been doing this for years.
