In just his fourth year in the league Lebron James has the Cleveland Cavaliers ready to make a trip to the Conference Semifinals. If the Cavaliers get to the NBA Finals and take home the trophy, you can bet that Lebron’s name will be called by David Stern as the NBA Finals’ most valuable player.

The West is still wide open, but one has to think that the Suns of Spurs will represent the conference in the NBA Finals. When we look at the Suns, we can’t look past two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash. Every big game that Amare Stoudemire or Shawn Marion have is because of Steve Nash’s ability to get them the ball in scoring positions. Because the style that Phoenix plays is so different than any style in the Eastern Conference I have to give the advantage to Steve Nash to collect the Finals MVP Award along with an NBA Championship ring if the Suns get past the Spurs. Also, the Spurs slow-down game would have adequately prepared Phoenix for anything the East could throw at them.

Let’s not count our chicken before they hatch. The Spurs have a number of proven playoff performers including Tim Duncan who has earned NBA Finals MVP honors in all three of San Antonio’s Championship seasons. While he will likely be the favorite from the Spurs to collect the award, we can’t rule out Tony Parker who is emerging as one of the best point guards in the game. I haven’t seen a team yet who can keep this guy out of the paint.

Well, there you have it. An early look at some possible NBA Finals MVP candidates. Make sure you check back for more pointed predictions once we know who will represent each conference in the series.
