Gone are Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez, and Antonio Pittman so don't expect this offense to be nearly as potent as the squad that averaged nearly 35 ppg a year ago.  The good news is for the skill players taking over is that they will have a big and aggressive offensive line to run behind that returns three starters.  This guys will need to be in full on run-blocking mode as Chris Wells, who is 6'1" and 225 pounds takes over the ground game.  There are three decent receivers who will see playing time as well.  Brian Robiski and Brian Harline are both solid possession receivers with good hands, and Ray Small can stretch the field.  Todd Boeckman will most likely take over the quarterback duties as nobody will have experience under center heading into fall practices.

The Buckeyes lost a lot on defense as well, a defense that ranked fifth in the nation by allowing only 12.8 ppg, but the linebackers are there to keep the opposing offenses in line.  Middle Linebacker James Laurinaitis is a beast and he'll be joined by Marcus Freeman, the team's second leading tackler, and Larry Grant, a juco All-American who was hurt a lot last season.  Up front there are a lot of new faces, but Vernon Gholston is ready for a breakout year as a junior at end.  Macolm Jenkins is a shutdown corner that helps solidify the secondary, and the only three spots will be filled by talented sophomores.

Don't expect the same kind of success that last year's dream squad had, when they went undefeated in the regular season before falling to Florida in the national title game.  The team will have plenty of chances to gel together as the first big game doesn't occur until late October when they head to Penn State.  That is followed by a home game at Wisconsin, then two weeks later by the real test, a trip to the Michigan Wolverines.
