There is a glaring hole on this offense that returns nine starters from last year's Big 12 championship team and that is at quarterback.  There are three guys battling it out for the starting role, and for now it appears like Joey Halzle will be the man, but he wasn't very impressive in the spring.  There are going to be four talented starters up front, a deep receiving corps, and Allen Patrick, who subbed in nicely when Adrian Peterson went down last year.  Patrick had 169 carries for 761 yards and four touchdowns.  Malcolm Kelly is expected to have a big year if someone can get him the ball as he had 62 catches for 993 yards and 10 scores last season.

Defensively the team has an outstanding secondary with two All-Big 12 cornerbacks in Reggie Smith and Marcus Walker.  Smith even has enough talent where he can possibly earn some All-American honors.  Safety will be held down by Nic Harris, who will be all-conference himself if things go right.  If there is a weakness on the defense, it's at linebacker, but that weakness could be a strength if juco transfer Mike Reed pans out at middle linebacker and Curtis Lofton keeps improving.  Up front the team is going to be tough to run against with some of the best tackles in the Big 12, but getting to the quarterback might be an issue with two new ends moving in.

Oklahoma has a nice schedule this year with an early home game against Miami and then Missouri and Texas A&M both on their home field.  There isn't a real tough road test, and the big game we circled on the schedule is the Red River Shootout against the Texas Longhorns.  This game will decide the eventual Big 12 South Champ, and most likely who will represent the league in the BCS.  An unbeaten season isn't out of the question as this team has loads of talent, even if we think Texas is a little more solid up and down.
