2007 Penn State Nittany Lions Football Preview & Predictions

With our 2007 Penn State Nittany Lions preview and predictions you are going to find a team that thinks they can make a run at the Big Ten title.  After going 9-4  and 5-3 in the Big Ten a year ago with all losses except Michigan on the road, this team does have potential. However, Penn State goes to Michigan early this year, then has back-to-back home stands against Iowa and Wisconsin, then ends October with a visit from Ohio State.  While this year they have a nice home schedule, they will have to get past Michigan early if they want to continue these national title fantasies the fans have been having.

The offense only put up 22.3 pg a year go, but returns eight starters.  Anthony Morelli took care of the football last year by throwing only eight interceptions while attempting a school record 386 passes.  The bad news is that he didn't make any big plays, which resulted in only 11 touchdowns and a 53.9% completion rate.  With this stable of talented receivers, including Derrick Williams, Deon Butler, and Jordan Norwood he is going to have to do more.  Austin Scott is going to most likely win the starting tailback job after redshirting last year with a couple of injuries.  The Nittany Lions need him to stay healthy if they are going to take pressure off of the passing game.

The line is in rebuilding more with only one returning starter from a year ago, but Josh Gaines looks like he could be a superstar at end.  All of the newcomers looked good in the spring so don't expect a big dropoff.  If you are looking for a breather when you hit linebacker, you are going to be mistaken.  Dan Connor was a force for three years on the outside, but looks to take over the middle man duties after Paul Posluszny left.  Sean Lee started last year and is agressive. The secondary has a bunch of young talent, and with their speed this group should be fine.
