Curtis Painter had a good year by anyone's standards with his 22 touchdowns and 3,985 yards passing, but his 19 interceptions were costly.  As a junior he'll get better in that category, but expect this to be a pass first team once again with some great receivers returning in Dorien Bryant, Greg Orton, and Selwyn Lymon.  Bryant is the best in the Big Ten and will be getting the attention of Pro scouts all year, while Orton and Lymon provide a nice compliment.  Tight end Dustin Keller is one of the best in the conference as well.  The running back position is up for grabs between last year's starter, Kory Sheets, and Jaycen Taylor.  Whichever gets the carries will be running behind an experienced line.

Purdue's defensive line was owned at times last year, and that was with the NFL-caliber end in Anthony Spencer.  It isn't going to be much harder for the opposition this year.  Cliff Avril moved from outside linebacker to end to try and help the problem and Alex Magee needs to step up in his junior season to play as big as his 295 pound frame.  Anothony Haygood and Stanford Keglar have speed on the outside, but the problem is in the middle where the Boilermakers are unsure of who is going to step up.  The secondary was young last year and got better as the season progressed.  The staff is hoping the learning continues as all four starters return.

Purdue should win their first four games before a home matchup with Notre Dame.  Then three key games are on the schedule as the Boilermakers host Ohio State, head to Michigan, and hosts Iowa.  The only other rough game on the schedule is a trip to Penn State.  Last year the team ended up 8-6 with a 5-3 mark in the Big Ten.  It looks like this year will be very similar for the Boilermakers.  Middle of the pack is where we are planning on finding Purdue at the end of the year and a pre-New Year's Day Bowl game.
