2007 Rockies Diamondbacks Predictions

The Arizona Diamondbacks were the best in the West during the MLB regular season, but they will have to get past their red hot division rivals to retain that label in the National League Championship Series.

The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks have been waiting to anxiously to get NLCS play underway after making quick work of their NLDS opponents. The Rockies swept the Philadelphia Phillies in three straight games and the Diamondbacks followed suit against the NL Central Champion Chicago Cubs. The Rockies and the Diamondbacks will open up their series on Thursday night in Arizona on TBS. Aces Brandon Webb and Jeff Francis will toe the mound for each team.

Although Arizona won the NL West this season, Colorado won the season series 10 games to 8 and even won 5 of the 9 games played in Arizona this season.

We can expect game one to be a tight one. Brandon Webb looked sensational in his 2007 MLB playoffs debut against the Cubs in the divisional series. He has now won 8 of his last 10 decisions and the Snakes have won 8 of his last 11 starts. Jeff Francis will get the ball for Colorado in game one. The Southpaw has had great success against the Diamondbacks. He is 7-2 when starting against Arizona with an ERA of 3.54 and a WHIP of 1.262.

The oddsmakers have made the Snakes a small -125 favorite at home for game one and with the total set at just 7.5 runs, the books are expecting a pitcher’s duel.

With as close as this series was during the regular season, we can more than likely expect this series to come down to a game 7 situation. Arizona appears to have the edge in pitching while the Rockies are the more potent team offensively. With Doug Davis going in game 2 (He’s been unstoppable at home this season), Livan Hernandez in game 3, and Micah Owings in game 4, it’s easy to see that the Snakes have the better rotation. And Diamondbacks camp reports that they would not rule out Webb pitching in Game 4 as well if need be. The Rockies have the better offense and it’s not even close.

Jimmy Boyd won the 2007 MLB regular season handicapping championship by a landslide and he is off to a stellar 6-2 start in the MLB playoffs. If you’re planning on playing the MLB postseason, it would be wise to see what Jimmy Boyd has to say about each matchup.
