Blake Mitchell returns for his senior season with his sights set on many of South Carolina's career passing records as he currently has a 61.2% career completion percentage and 4,245 passing yards.  He struggled at times last season but after ending last year making better decisions Mitchell has a firm hold on the job.  The running back position will be manned by both Cory Boyd and Mike Davis, who combined for almost 1300 yards a year ago along with 14 TDs.  Chris Culliver is a speedy freshman people are excited about at receiver and Kenny McKinley is a returning starter.  Things might be tough for Mitchell and the ground game though as the line is breaking in players at the middle three positions.

The front four was a liability last year, but a ton of newcomers turned this into a strength if the spring was any indicator.  Jordin Lindsey, Eric Norwood, and Nathan Pepper all come back from decent performances a year go, and Cliff Matthews is a pass-rushing beast who should pressure the opposition.  Jasper and Casper Brinkley are two talented linebackers, and Jasper might be one of the best in the conference.  The secondary hasn't gotten a lot of playing time so they will be learning on the fly.

At Georgia, at LSU, at Tennessee, at Arkansas, and a home game against Florida would make almost anyone cringe when they look at the schedule.  The good news is that every other game on the schedule is one that we think the Gamecocks can win.  With the schedule this year it's tough imagining this school getting over the hump as we see them finishing in the bottom half of the SEC West, but one of these years Spurrier is going to break through, maybe this is the year.
