College Bowl Predictions2007 Sun Bowl Odds & PredictionsEl Paso, Texas is the site for the 2007 Sun Bowl and Jimmy Boyd is here to help you break through the numbers. The game will be played on December 31st, 2007 at 2 PM EST and will be televised live on CBS. South Florida and Oregon are two teams that at one time thought they had a chance at the national title game, but late season stumbles have them squaring off against each other before New Year's Day. This is one of the oldest bowl games around, dating back to 1936 when Hardin-Simons and New Mexico deadlocked in a 14-14 tie. In fact, this was a post-New Year's bowl game until the 1957-58 season and has recently been played in the few days at the end of the year. If you want to close out 2007 on the right note, then sign up for Jimmy Boyd's college bowl picks package and beat the odds this post-season.
Oregon ended the year at 8-4 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS). The team did well on offense when they put up 36.7 points per game (ppg) with a rushing attack that gained 243.8 rushing yards per game (ypg) and 218.3 passing ypg. You have to think that the Ducks are going to be disappointed to be playing in this game. Back on November 15th they stood at 8-1 and no. 2 in the BCS standings before heading into Arizona to take on the Wildcats. They lost Dennis Dixon in that game, and their title hopes also vanished, you could tell because the team lost the next two games at UCLA and at home against Oregon State. Defensively Oregon isn't the strongest as they allow 23.8 ppg, 250.3 ypg through the air, and 136.5 ypg on the ground. South Florida surprised a few teams this year in the Big East when they beat West Virginia, finished 9-3 SU and 6-4 ATS. The offense was more potent than most pundits thought it was going to be to start the season as the Bulls averaged almost 36 ppg while giving up only 20.7 ppg. South Florida also did a great job of running the football as they gained 193.1 ypg on the ground to 229.4 ypg through the air. When it came to defense they were no slouches either giving up only 112 ypg rushing against a lot of good rushing teams. Three straight wins in blowout fashing against Syracuse, Louisville, and Pittsburgh has the team flying high coming into this bowl game, so if you are looking for the who is hot and happy to be here, you have to think South Florida still has something to prove in that they can hang with a big-time team like the Ducks.
