College Bowl Predictions2007 Texas Bowl Odds & PredictionsThe 2007 Texas Bowl odds have been posted and even with the game being played in Houston, the Cougars find themselves nearly four point underdogs to TCU. The game will be televised on the NFL Network at 8 EST on December 28th. This bowl got it's start back in 2000 and was initially between Conference USA and the Big 12 with galleryfurniture.com being the sponsor. Now it's EV1.net and also known as the Houston Bowl. TCU last played in this game back in 2005, when they beat Iowa State 27-24 to cement a top 10 final ranking and give them a ten game winning streak to finish out the year. Last year it was Rutgers who beat Kansas State by a score of 37-10.
Houston had one of the best offenses in the nation this year with 36 points per game (ppg) on 273 passing yard per game (ypg) and 239 rushing ypg. It seemed like nobody could stop Anthony Alridge as he racked up 2,000 yards from scrimmage and scored 19 touchdowns. The Cougars use a duo at quarterback in Case Keenum and Blake Joseph. Keenum has a bigger upside with his ability to make plays with his feet, but he is more susceptible to turning the ball over. Defensively the team was better than most in the scoring crazy Conference USA, but in the team's only loss over their final seven games they gave up 56 points in a loss to Tulsa. Why is Houston the underdog in their home city then? Well because Art Briles is gone as he made the move to Baylor, and he took with him his top offensive assistants. This leaves the team a little disoriented and we don't think they are going to be able to put up as many points, and neither do the odds makers. TCU had high hopes when the year started to be this year's Boise State. The Horned Frogs were even up 10-0 against Texas at half, but then gave up 34 in the second session to lose by three touchdowns. It seemed like that was the beginning of the end as they lost to Air Force on a Thursday night game the next week and finished 4-4 in a Mountain West Conference that nearly everyone thought was theirs for the taking. Defensively TCU does alright by allowing only 210 ypg through the air and 109 ypg on the ground. This is good to keep the opposition under 20 ppg on average. Offensively now that the Horned Frogs have quit turning the ball over they are doing a lot better scoring more than 34 ppg in three of their last four. Interesting betting trends: TCU is 15-5 SU in their last 20 games Houston is 6-1 SU over their last seven Oddsmakers predicted score: TCU Horned Frogs 31 2007 Texas Bowl Odds: TCU Horned Frogs
