2007 Texas A&M Aggies Football Preview & Predictions

Now take a look at our 2008 Texas A&M Football Predictions!

Jimmy Boyd's 2007 Texas A&M Aggies football preview & predictions page shows a team that has a lot of talent and could possibly put up a running for a Big 12 Title.  The team will probably need to get a couple of breaks though because the schedule isn't going to be very kind to them.  A&M has to play at Miami in the fourth week of the season, then goes to Texas Tech, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri.  While those games are all going to be real tests the season finale is a home game against the Texas Longhorns.  We think this team is talented enough to beat anyone they play, with a veteran offensive line, a talented quarterback, a bruising running game, and a defense that is better than average.  Winning at Texas in the last regular season game a year ago had to give this team confidence they can contend, and they just might this season.

Stephen McGee will be the leader of the offense after passing for 2,295 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore while allowing only 2 interceptions.  He also ran for 666 yards and racked up nine wins as a starter.  He is a tough guy who commands the respect of his teammates and is a guy any coach would love running the team.  The backfield will be set with a nice 1-2 duo of Jovorskie Lane and Mike Goodson.  Goodson has blazing speed and racked up 847 yards on 127 carries, while Lane is a 275-pound bruiser that picks up the tough yards and wears down defenses.  Earvin Taylor gives McGee a big target at wideout but the real threat is with tight end Martellus Bennett.  Bennett can make big blocks, but he is light footed as he showed in catching 38 balls for 497 yards and 4 touchdowns a year ago.  The offensive line is experienced and talented, which should give the backs plenty of room to run through and plenty of time to McGee to hit the open receiver.

We are confident in this defensive line, led by a standout at tackle and a standout at end.  The tackle spot is manned by Red Bryant, a guy who has NFL scouts talking about his ability to stuff the run, while the at end you have Chris Harrington.  Harrington racked up 7.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for losses a year ago, despite being a warrior and playing through injuries.  At linebacker you have the old and the new.  Seniors Mark Dodge and Misi Tupe provide the experience and leadership the unit needs, while youngsters Anthony Lewis and Matt Featherson are quick and can make plays.  The Aggies had one of the most improved secondaries in the nation a year ago, and with three starters returning those numbers should continue to get better.  Jordan Peterson and Jordan Pugh are a pair of sophmores that can make plays, while the two corner spots and the free safety spot has a trio of juniors that will only continue to improve as upper classmen.
