Last year Pete Carroll led the Trojans to an 11-2
record overall and 7-2 mark in the Pac 10, and
expectations for this year's team are higher than
ever. The team will have another Heisman
contender to try and continue their 3 winners in the
last 5 years mark. John David Booty had a
great year last year with 29 TDs to only 9 picks
while racking up 3,347 yards. He lost his best
two pass catchers to the NFL draft in Steve Smith
and Dwayne Jarrett, but USC has no trouble reloading
at the position. The amazing thing about the
offense is how much talent they have in the
backfield with Chauncey Washington racking up 9 TDs
and 744 yards a year ago and with plenty of others
on his heels. Defensively this will be the best
team USC has had in years, with 10 of 11 starters returning from last year's
squad who ranked near the top of the nation and has All-Americans lining up and
won the lineup. Sedrick Ellis leads the line at tackle while Rey Maualuga
and Keith Rivers are two of the best linebackers in the Pac 10 will be joined by
last year's Rose Bowl MVP Brian Cushing. In the secondary Taylor Mays is a
big free safety who is only a sophomore, but is a hard hitter and great tackler.
The schedule this year is a little tougher than a year ago and they will have
to go to Nebraska, Notre Dame, and the California
Bears, but this team should be favored
in nearly every contest. The game that will decide the season will be
against the Golden Bears, and if they win that they we fully expect this team to
make it to the national title game.
