2007 Wimbledon Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on June 19, 2007

The most illustrious of all the Grand Slams is just days away and now you can get in on the betting with these 2007 Wimbledon odds. Tennis players are now in mid-season form and all of the best players in the world are ready to head to London in order to compete in the All England Lawn Tennis Championships. The players will only have two weeks to prepare for this grass event after having endured the clay court season from April 9th, 2007 through the Roland Garros on June 10th. The courts will be faster, slicker, balls will bounce lower, and the favorites become the serve-and-volley type players like Roger Federer.

The leader on the men’s side of the tournament will be Roger Federer. Federer has won this tournament four times in a row and will be going for his fifth straight title. He is known as the King of grass and will be the player to beat. The sure play will be taking Federer all the way to the final. There is good value though in taking the second-best player in the world. Rafael Nadal is the King of Clay, but made it all the way to the final at Wimbledon a year ago before losing to Federer in four sets.

Andy Roddick could surprise people as the highest-rated American player. He won the Stella Artois last week and is once again being hyped as the challenger to Federer. However, he has been a disappointment too many times for experience bettors to fall for the hype. He made it to the finals in 2004 and 2005, both times losing to Federer. He now has won Artois four times, but is yet to take Wimbledon. Another black mark is his 1-13 career record against Federer.

Bettors will also be taking a look at no. 5 player in the world Novak Djokovic. He made his first-ever semifinal in a Grand Slam at the French Open, and will be a good play at Wimbledon in the early stages. Check his draw towards the final stages of the tournament, if they are favorable he could make another semi.

No. 11 Thomas Berdych isn’t on a lot of peoples radar, but he won the Gerry Weber and could be poised for an upset or two. Lleyton Hewitt may be ranked no. 19 in the world, but he should be good for a couple of wins in the early rounds and Guillermo Canas is our pick as a guy who is poised for an upset or two.
