2007-08 Philadelphia 76ers Predictions & Season Preview

In Jimmy Boyd's 2007-08 Philadelphia 76ers predictions and season preview article you aren't going to have a lot of hope for seeing a playoff-caliber team.  Now that Philly has traded away their star player in Allen Iverson, there isn't a star on the squad.  The team seemed content to keep it that way as they had a quiet off-season and they are hoping to see their young players develop and grow.  The team did play well after the Iverson deal, going 30-29 to finish the season, but it'll be interesting to see how they can do with an entire season without AI on the roster.

The front court is going to be pretty ugly for the team.  Andre Iguodala will be the focus at small forward, even though he would probably be a shooting guard on most teams in the league.  He is still young at 24, but needs to show that he can take a team on his shoulders.  He did put up 18 points, 5 boards, and 5 dishes per game last year, something that was only done by three other players (think Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Tracy McGrady).  At power forward you'll see either Steven Hunter, who only put up 6.4 ppg and 4.8 rpg last year, or Rodney Carney, who is a little short and is still raw after his rookie campaign.  At center there is Samuel Dalembert, who is coming off a career-year in which he averaged 10.7 ppg and 9 rebounds, not exactly dominate center numbers.  Kyle Korver might get some starts at small forward, and he's a deadly shooter who will put up points but will be next to non-existent on defense.

Andre Miller leads the backcourt after eight years in the league.  He gives the team leadership, scores 13.4 ppg and dishes out almost 8 assists per contest.  The Sixers need him to keep producing if they are going to compete.  His backcourt mate is up in the air, but don't be surprised if the young Louis Williams gets a shot.  This guy lit up the summer leagues and might be ready to hit his stride in his third year in the league after having entered out of high school.  Otherwise it'll be Willie Green, who put up alright numbers despite shooting horribly last season.
