As long as Shaq and Dwayne Wade are healthy, the Heat will be
mentioned in the same sentence with NBA Finals contender. The
problem is that Shaq has not been healthy for an entire season
of late and Wade’s reckless style of play is conducive of
nagging injuries. The Heat can never afford to be without Wade’s
nearly 30 points per game and the space that Shaq eats up inside
for long periods of time.
With that said, last season’s 4-0 loss to the Bulls in the
playoffs was embarrassing and we feel it will light a fire under
the Heat. Wade is still young and the taste he got of a title
two season’s ago has him hungry for another one. And of course,
Shaq wants as many titles as he can get to ensure his place in
history as the greatest center of all time, which he feels he
is.
The Heat will have to get consistent production from Antoine
Walker and Jason Williams also in order to make that title run.
Williams needs to stay healthy as well. He has rounded into a
very nice guard late in his career. He can score in bunches from
the perimeter and understands how to get the hot hands the
basketball.
The Heat are going to have to find a way to beat the younger,
more athletic teams, like the Bulls, who gave them so much
trouble last season. Hopefully Smush Parker will give the Heat
some much needed athletic ability and a consistent scorer from
the guard position. With Jason Kapono now off to the Toronto
Raptors, Smush is also going to be expected to provide the Heat
with some much-needed outside shooting as is Jason Williamns.
With the way Kapono came on last season, I’m not so sure this is
a guy the Heat should have parted with. Also, the Heat will have
to adjust to life without defensive stopped James Posey who
heads north to Bean Town to join that talented group.
Still, with Udonis Haslem, Shaq, D-Wade, Walker, and Williams,
the Heat have as tough a lineup as there is in the East. It will
be health which becomes their biggest opponent once again this
season.
