2007-08 New Jersey Nets Predictions & Season Preview

Our 2007-08 New Jersey Nets season preview and predictions article is designed to get you off to the right kind of start to the year.  It was an interesting off-season for the Nets as they had to consider whether to split up their Big Three of Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter, and Jason Kidd.  Jefferson was dangled on the trading block, but coming off an injury-plagued 2006-07 season his stock was low and the franchise thinks he can make a big comeback this year.  New Jersey struggled with the decision of whether to extend Carter's contract, but after the dust settled Vince had a four-year, $61 million deal.  Last February there were a lot of rumors about Kidd heading to Los Angeles to join the Lakers, but he's still here.  Lawrence Frank's job wasn't even safe with Jeff Van Gundy on the market, but he too has a two-year extension.  The team has made the playoffs in six straight years, but they need to take the next step this year or risk a dismantlement.

At center the team has found a star in Nenad Kristic, who was averaging 16.4 ppg and 6.8 rpg before going down with a torn ACL early in the season.  He was the third leading scoring at center behind Yao Ming and Tim Duncan before the injury.  Backing him up will be veteran Jamaal Magloire.  Richard Jefferson finally had to have surgery on his injured ankle, and even though he missed only 27 games he looked hurt most of the season.  His post-season play improved however, where he put up 19.7 ppg, played nearly 41 minutes per game, and played pretty tough on LeBron James in the Cavs series.  Jason Collins is the other forward, but even though he's a defensive stopper he has little to no skills on the other end of the court.  In the rotation for playing time will be Josh Boone, in his second year out of Connecticut, Boki Nachbar, and rookie Sean Williams out of Boston College.

The Nets might have the best starting backcourt in the game with Kidd and Carter.  Kidd showed that he still had it with 12 triple doubles, while averaging over 8 boards, 9 assists, and 13 ppg.  Carter scored more points last season than all but one other in his career, and earned himself that big extension.  There isn't a whole lot of depth here, but Marcus Williams should be the future at point.  Atonoie Wright was a disappointment as the backup shooting guard, so it's important that Carter stays healthy.

It should be an interesting year for the Nets as fans want more than just an early playoff exit.  The key to the season is going to be the health of the big players, because their isn't a lot of depth and the team has been hampered in the past couple years due to these injuries.  If the pieces fall together this team can compete for the Finals, but the Celtics have to be the favorites right now to win the division.  Remember that if you want to beat the NBA odds each and every night then all you have to do is pick up a package of NBA picks from Jimmy Boyd and his Locksmith Sports staff.  We will be putting in the long hours and doing the heavy research to make sure our clients have the best plays available.  If you want to take your NBA betting up to another level then get signed up today.
