The Spurs were not the favorites to win the title last season, but they were able to upstage their division rivals (Dallas Mavericks) to get the job done. With Tony Parker’s game being taken to a whole new level, and with Manu Ginobli being the closest thing this game has seen to Scottie Pippen, the Spurs have to be high on your radar of teams to win this season’s title. Parker continues to live up to his reputation as the quickest player in the league. He also continues to improve his game as a playmaker. With Parker hocking the ball and Bruce Bowen locking up the top scorer, their isn’t a better defensive backcourt in the league.

Oh yeah, and then there’s that Tim Duncan guy. He was healthy last season, and that made all the difference in the world. Bruce Bowen is the premier defender in the game right now and rarely loses his battle with an opponent’s top scorer. Michael Finley, Robert Horry, and Brent Barry give the Spurs veteran depth. These guys have experience and always come up big for the Spurs in the clutch in big games. And head coach Gregg Popovich can not go unmentioned. His no-nonsense approach is reflected in the toughness that his Spurs team has.

San Antonio will have its work cut out for itself this season as the Spurs will now where the target on their backs again. Dallas will be especially hungry to knock them off, but thus far, the Spurs have proved to be a better playoff team.

With some of these vets getting up in years, expect to see some of San Antonio’s youngsters getting more minutes this season to rest guys like Duncan. Fabricio Oberto and Francisco Elson are two big guys who will see big minutes playing alongside Duncan and also playing without him when Pop goes to smaller lineups.

Spurs backer should enjoy another great season of NBA betting as their boys should put up at least 60 outright wins for them. Much like the Mavs, who are also public favorites, you won’t see many NBA picks against the spread on San Antonio this season from Jimmy Boyd this season. He makes plays that win, plain and simple.
