2007-08 Washington Wizards Predictions & Season
Preview
The Washington Wizards emerged as the Phoenix Suns of the East
last season with their big three of Gilbert Arenas, Caron
Butler, and Antawn Jamison piling up the points. Find out if
this offensive minded approach will be the right recipe to
compete in the East in our 2007-08 Washington Wizards
predictions and season preview.

If we base our prediction off the old saying that defense wins
championships, the Wizards have no shot. If we look at the fact
that the Wizards have three of the best young talents in the
Eastern Conference playing together on one team, we may have to
give them some consideration.
I’m not going to beat around the bush though. I feel the style
of play that Washington and Phoenix play is great for the
regular season and can be somewhat effective in the playoffs,
but I think it’s a very difficult style to win a championship
with. It is an energy consuming style of play. Why does Tim
Duncan look so fresh in the fourth quarter for the Spurs? They
play a half court games that allows his legs to rest.
The Wizards will look to bounce back after being swept by the
Cavaliers in last season’s playoffs. The Wiz were without both
Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler in that series sending a message
to the players and fans that it was really over before it
started.
While the focus is supposed to be on defense in training camp,
I’m not buying it. Rarely do young players love the defensive
end of the floor. Kobe Bryant has just started to become a
recognized defensive threat the last few seasons. It often takes
young guys a while to realize they need to play every area of
the game to truly be great.
Brendan Haywood is going to have to continue to improve for this
team on the interior if they hope to be able to contend with the
Miami’s and the Boston’s among others this season. Teams without
a dominant post presence either offensively or defensively just
don’t stand a chance.
Ultimately, we feel that the Wizards could challenge for a
Southwest Division title, but a NBA Championship is still off in
the distance somewhere.
