Favorite – New England Patriots: -1000 to win AFC East at Sportsbook.com

The Patriots did it all last season except win the big one. Tom Brady had one of the best season a NFL QB has ever played and Randy Moss echoed the same statement from the wide receiver position. The Pats ran the table in the regular season and were one game away from going down in history as the greatest NFL team ever. Now, last year's team can't even be mentioned in the same breath as the past Patriots Super Bowl teams because it did not win the won't that counts. The high powered offense returns virtually intact so we should see Tom Brady and company racking up points again. It hard to think that the Pats could be as good as last season, but maybe they will want it more.

Sleeper – New York Jets: +500 to win AFC East at Sportsbook.com

While several defenses slowed the Patriots in 2007, none had the offensive firepower to get the job done until the Giants did it in the Super Bowl. Buffalo has shown that it can play a little defense, but it is not good enough offensively to challenge the Pats. The Jets do not fear the Pats and head coach Eric Mangini know what New England does better than anyone having coached under Belichick. Still, this division likely didn't even deserve a sleeper until New York landed Brett Favre. It's hard to imagine a scenario where Brett is as good as he was last season as there are two many factors going against him, but he lends legitimacy to this offense. Teams will have to respect his ability to sling the rock and that gives the Jets a chance.

The betting line on the Buffalo Bills is +900 to win the division and it is +3000 for the Miami Dolphins. Both teams should improve, but likely more on defense than offense. Buffalo may have stumbled on to a QB they could build around in QB Trent Edwards. They hope his progress remains steady. Running back Marshawn Lynch appears to have the stuff to make a name for himself in this league. The Dolphins have a big uphill climb ahead. Even a 3-game improvement only gets this team to 4-12. The addition of Chad Pennington at QB does have things looking better on the offensive side of the ball then we had previously projected them to be.
