1st –
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots were one game away from
being considered the best team in the history of
the NFL. While some teams endure major letdowns
after great seasons, I expect the Pats to play
their 2008 campaign with a chip on their
shoulder. Tom Brady and Randy Moss are coming
off record breaking seasons and they will be
back to torch secondaries again. An aging
defense may slightly decline, but the most
explosive offense in the league should make up
for it again. The Pats will run away with the
East and challenge for another Super Bowl.
2nd –
Buffalo Bills
The Bills rebuilding project proved ahead of
schedule in 2007 when they were still in the
playoff hunt until enduring three straight
losses at the end. Rookie QB Trent Edwards and
rookie running back Marshawn Lynch were both
very good right out of the gates and should be
more confident in year two. Drafting top
cornerback Leodis McKelvin will instantly
improve a soft secondary and breathe life into
the return game. With the Jets and Dolphins just
starting the rebuilding process, the Bills
should take second in the East, but they are
likely still a year away from the postseason.

Miami Dolphins
Miami finished with a 1-15 record in 2007, but
it has done enough to leapfrog the Jets to stay
out of the division basement. With Bill Parcells
in the front office, a turnaround will happen as
long as history continues to repeat itself.
Parcells inherited a 2-14 Patriots team and had
them in the playoffs in two years. He took over
a 1-5 Jets team and put them in the postseason
in two years. Parcells then inherited a 5-11
Cowboys squad and had them in the playoffs in
one year. He's not coaching, but he has the
authority to put all the pieces together just
the way he wants. He's already added 13 free
agents, a franchise offensive tackle, a QB of
the future, and at least two defensive line
starters. I'd say a turnaround is imminent.
4th –
New York Jets
One year removed from a 10-win season and a
playoff berth, earning head coach Eric Mangini "Mangenious"
status, the Jets fell to the harsh reality of a
4-12 record. The Jets added Alan Faneca and
Damien Woody to bolster their line, but did
nothing to address the major weakness at QB.
It's obvious that Chad Pennington doesn't have
it any more and that Kellen Clemens is not the
right guy to replace him. The line should be
somewhat better, but the Jets do not have enough
playmakers to win very many games. They'll have
to do it with defense and special teams. Another
four-win season is expected.
