Favorite – San Diego Chargers: -400 to win AFC West at Sportsbook.com

Not only are the Bolts the most talented team in the AFC West, they are arguably the most talented squad in the entire league. This team has done enough to win division titles, but it has struggled in the postseason. In fact, injuries to all three of San Diego's top skill players (L.T., Phillip Rivers, and Antonio Gates) may have been the only thing standing in the way of a Super Bowl appearance last season. It's Super Bowl or bust this year for the Chargers, who have stars on both sides on the ball.

Sleeper – Denver Broncos: +400 to win AFC West at Sportsbook.com

The Broncos are the only other team that has a chance in this division as the Chiefs are starting from scratch and the Raiders need to get their young talent some experience in a hurry. The Broncos underachieved last season and that has left a sour taste in the mouth of this proud organization. In fact, last season's 7-9 team was just the second losing team Mike Shanahan has coached in his 13 seasons as Denver head man. The offense especially disappointed as the injury of tailback Travis Henry held them back. With Henry back at 100 percent, I like the offense to step up and I'm anticipating QB Jay Cutler to have a breakout season. It certainly won't hurt that the Broncos brought in receivers Darrell Jackson and Keary Colbert to help him out. Denver has a talented defense, led by Champ Bailey, and this unit could really excel if the offense can move the ball to give it time to rest.

The oddsmakers have set a long shot line on the Kansas City Chiefs at +1000 to win the AFC West and they have listed the Oakland Raiders at +650. Kansas City could actually end up being even worse than they were a year ago when they finished with only four wins. The biggest reasons for this is because they did nothing to address their QB situation and they traded NFL sack champion Jared Allen to start rebuilding through the draft. They got the guy they wanted in Glenn Dorsey to build around on the defensive line, but it is going to take some time before the Chiefs are ready to compete in the West.
The Raiders are also coming off a 4-12 season, but they appear ready to improve on that mark. JaMarcus Russell will almost certainly struggle in his first year as starting signal caller, but having the talented Darren McFadden in the backfield will help smooth out his maturation process.
