2008 Barclays Predictions, Picks, & Odds to Win

I did take Woods in the US Open, but normally I look a little further down the list for some more value.  However, Mickelson comes in as a bit of a sleeper as he has been overshadowed by the performances of Padraig Harrington, Anthony Kim, and Kenny Perry.  But you can’t argue with the stats in terms of the year he has had.  Lefty has two wins, finished in the top 20 in all four majors and posted five top-five finishes.  Oh yeah, and he’s only missed one cut all year.  Playing on a new PGA course where no one has an experience advantage over anyone else, we have to take a strong look at one of the best golfers on the planet at a decent enough price.

Harrington didn’t get the overall favorite nod over Lefty and that’s fine by me because I’ll gladly take the added value attached to the guy who has won the last two majors.  Harrington is hot right now.  He successfully defended his British Open title and then went on to win the PGA Championship.  With Woods not in the field, this is the guy who has the confidence and the game to win.  It takes patience and avoiding major mistakes to perform well as consistently as this guy has this season and that’s exactly what he brings to the table.  Harrington will be a force throughout the playoffs.

Anthony Kim: +2500 at BetUS.com

We look for Kim to make a statement throughout the playoffs.  He has been one of the best stories on the tour this season with wins at both the AT&T National and Wachovia Championship this season.  Keep in mind that Kim has played his best golf on the more traditional golf venues.  His wins were at Quail Hollow and Congressional and Ridgewood Country Club is another challenging classic course.  And Kim also took seventh at the British Open.  After playing poorly at the PGA Championship, Kim will be ready to wash that sour taste out of his mouth.  Expect this up and comer not to back down from anyone.
