Odds to Win the 2008 Belmont Stakes

While the Belmont Stakes is always one of the biggest races of the year, it will especially get a lot of attention this year as Big Brown will be racing for a piece of history. The undefeated thoroughbred, like he was in the Preakness Stakes, is the overwhelming 1-3 favorite for this race. But those odds don't figure to slow bettors down as many will take Big Brown in hopes that he is the next Triple Crown horse. Below, Jimmy lists the odds to win this race as posted by BodogLife.com so that you can begin to weigh the field. We'll also get you up to speed on the field as many of you probably haven't heard of any of these horses other than Big Brown. 10 horses have failed to win the Triple Crown at the Belmont since Affirmed last won it in 1978 so one never wants to assume that it's a given.

Casino Drive – The favorite after Big Brown figures to be the most likely choice to pull off the upset. He is the half brother to last year's Belmont Stakes winner Rags to Riches.

Denis of Cork – This third place Derby horse is back to challenge Big Brown with fresh legs. We saw his full potential when he won the Illinois Derby and he'll have to run that race again if he wants to win.

Tale of Eakati – This fourth place Derby horse will hope that rest gives him an edge over Big Brown also. He showed a great finishing kick at the Wood Memorial which makes him a contender.

Behindatthebar – This horse scratched at the Preakness Stakes following a bruised left front foot injury. This Todd Pletcher horse is showing great value at 25-1 odds and should also benefit from rest. Remember that is was Pletcher's horse Rags to Riches which won the Belmont Stakes last season.

Anak Nakal – This horse also ran the Derby, but his seventh place finish will have him drawing little action. Still, this Nick Zito trainee has showed great potential and could be due for an explosion like we saw out of Birdstone in 2004.

Macho Again – This horse has a great gene pool as the son of former Juvenile champ Macho Uno. After running second place at the Preakness Stakes, he's sure to get some action at a great price.

Tomcito – This horse has already taken on the 1.5 mile distance this season and that could give him an advantage. This horse has shown its endurance and could be a longshot lovers dream at 50-1 odds.

Icabad Crane – This third place Preakness Stakes horse likely would have been second if it hadn't hung at the back of the pack so long before kicking it in. His jockey, Jeremy Rose, won the Belmont Stakes aboard Afleet Alex three years ago and that experience will weigh in this horse's favor.
