Big 12 South

1st Oklahoma Sooners – With offensive and defensive lines that are among the nation's best, and with Sam Bradford at the controls, the Sooners have a team capable of winning the Big 12 and a national title.

2nd Texas Longhorns – A very tough schedule will likely be enough to keep the Longhorns from taking the top spot in the North. Colt McCoy is one of the best QB's in the league, but Texas' offense may lack a little potency with running back Jamaal Charles leaving early for the NFL.

3rd Texas Tech – The Red Raiders will have depth and experience on its side with 36 returning starters. The offense, led by Graham Harrell will be among the best in the country, but the defense won't be good enough to challenge the Sooners.

4th Texas A&M – Only time will tell if former Green Bay Packers head man, Mike Sherman, can pump enthusiasm into an underachieving outfit. Mike Goodson is a good one as a go-to back, but the offensive line could make yards tough to come by for him.

5th Oklahoma State – The Cowboys ranked 112th against the pass last season and 101st in total defense. Not enough improvement is on the way to challenge for the top.

6th Baylor Bears – The hiring of Art Briles appears to be a move in the right direction, but a defense that ranked 110th in the nation will put the Bears in the basement in 2008.

Big 12 North

1st Missouri Tigers – Heisman Trophy candidate QB Chase Daniel makes the Tigers a legit national championship contender. They'll likely get another crack at the Sooners in the Big 12 championship game.

2nd Kansas Jayhawks – The Jayhawks won't threaten a perfect season the way they did in 2007 because they add Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech to the schedule, but they are still good enough to put 8 or 9 wins on the board.

3rd Colorado Buffaloes – The Buffs are moving in the right direction under head coach Dan Hawkins. With Cody Hawkins leading a newly installed no-huddle attack, the Buffs should be bowl bound in 2008.

4th Nebraska Cornhuskers – The Huskers will have a high powered passing attack, led by QB Joe Ganz, but there are way too many holes on defense for major improvements to take place in Bo Pelini's first year as head man.

5th Kansas State Wildcats – The Wildcats will bring in 19 junior college transfers to try to gain experience in a hurry but I'm not buying. This looks like a desperate attempt by a poor defensive unit.

6th Iowa State Cyclones – Even with a schedule free of Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech, the Cyclones will have their work cut out for themselves having to replace four-year starting QB Bret Meyer.
