2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic Predictions

Written by Jack Jones on October 21, 2008

With Curlin entered into the 2008 Breeder’s Cup Classic the question for many is who will run in second? Even though this is the first North American horse to win $10 million, doesn’t mean you should automatically throw down on Curlin to win. You should also look for other ways to win with your horse racing betting this Saturday.

The favorite might be a little vulnerable here as it seems the long shots normally do well in this race. So which ponies do we think have a chance at coming through, let’s take a look below at Race 8 on October 25th, 2008 at Santa Anita.

Curlin – listed at 2/1

Curlin has the chance to be listed with some of the greats in horse racing if he wins this. He took the Breeders Cup Classic last year and too home the Dubai World Cup in March to eclipse the $10 million mark. Now he is the clear favorite here and should have a pretty good chance at going back-to-back. He continually takes on the best horses in the world, and more often than not ends up beating them on the surfaces they like running on. I’m probably going to be putting my money down on another horse this week, but if Curlin takes it I wouldn’t be surprised.

Henrythenavigator – 6-to-1

This horse is the top contender to Curlin. He has almost been as good as the favorite this year, and even put together five straight Grade I victories earlier this year. This horse has shown that it has the ability to run stride for stride with Curlin, and I feel like he may be worth a look if you want to get a little better bang for your buck on a straight wager. If this horse would have entered into the Breeders’ Cup Mile instead of this Classic then he would have been more than a toss-up favorite. However, he is going for the gold and just might get it.

Casino Drive – 8-to-1

This horse only has two lifetime races, but the media is in a frenzy over Casino Drive. Can a horse with this little experience have a shot against the likes of Curlin or Henrythenavigator? I have to make a pass on this one as I don’t think he can keep up with the big boys. There are going to be more people taking this horse than any of the others outside of the top two, and maybe just Curlin will draw more action but I think it’s foolhardy to do so. There is just little to no way that this horse can win the race.
