2008 Buick Open Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on June 20, 2008

The Buick Open top spot is normally reserved for Tiger Woods, who always plays well in the event and has won it two times in his career. With Woods being done for the season, the chances of winning improves for the rest of the field. Some of the best golfers in the world will be teeing it up this week at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Glan Blanc, Michigan, but defending champ Brian Bateman proves that anyone can win. Jimmy has been on fire in PGA Tour action this season and he’ll look to continue his success this week with his 2008 Buick Open predictions. Jimmy also lists the odds below for the entire field as listed by Sportsbook.com, the leader in golf betting.

Bet our Favorite Jim Furyk at 10-1 odds at Sportsbook.com – Furyk is a former champion at the Buick, having won it in 2003. He was the runner-up in 2006 and tied for fifth last year so we know this is a golf course that he feels very comfortable with. Furyk has struggled in his last four events after getting off to a very strong start this season. In fact, his best finish in those four events in a tie for 27th at the Players Championship. Furyk has six top 10 finishes this season though and you might say that he’s due this week. He may have a quirky swing, but he remains one of the most accurate swingers on the tour. I like his iron approach shots to treat him to some low scores this week.

Bet our Sleeper Brandt Snedeker at 25-1 odds at Sportsbook.com – Sneds has really shown up in big events this year, finishing third at the Masters and ninth in the U.S. Open. This rising star has five top ten finishes already this season. With the exception of last year, this event has been reserved for the better players in the world and Sneds is certainly one of them right now. I like him to be in contention come Sunday and you can grab him at a great price.

Make a Great Value wager on Rocco Mediate at 50-1 odds at Sportsbook.com – Rocco Mediate has won this tournament before, back in 2000, and after a memorable runner-up finish in the U.S. Open, I fully expect him to ride that success to another strong performance this week. There has been a trend of long hittesr fairing well at Warwick Hills, but Mediate proved in the Open that driving it in the fairway and making puts gives you just as good of a chance to win any tournament. I expect to see a lot of low scores this week and the lowest just might be from Mediate. This guy does not get rattled and was arguably more poised down the stretch than Tiger in the Open. The better player just won. He’s certainly worth a wager at 50-1.
