2008 Canadian Open
Jimmy Boyd is ready for another week of PGA Tour action with his 2008 RBC Canadian Open odds and predictions. The British Open certainly had a different feel last week without Tiger Woods in the field, but the remaining competitors did not disappoint. A serious run at the Claret Jug by Greg Norman fell short on Sunday, just as it has so many times in the past for the Shark. It was still quite the attention grabber nevertheless. And Padraig Harrington stole the show by winning his second straight Open Championship title. The PGA Tour stays abroad this week at the Glenn Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario as Jim Furyk looks to make it three straight wins north of the border. But with many of the big names taking the week off, it could be the right time to grab a healthy underdog for the win. It’s been a great season of PGA Tour betting so invest in Jimmy’s three golfers once again this week for the best chance to come out on top.
Jim Furyk: 7-1 odds at BodogLife.com – No one is playing Canada like Furyk. He’ll be going for his third straight win at the Canadian Open so it comes as no surprise that he is the odds on favorite. But at 7-1 odds, he still offers us plenty of bang for the buck. Furyk has been hot recently with a third place finish at the AT&T National and a tie for fifth at the British Open. The trend of players performing well in the same tournaments year after year is getting to be more and more valuable. After a sluggish start, Furyk seems to be hitting his stride. We’ll ride his momentum here. Invest in Furyk to see if we’ll see back-to-back winners in consecutive tournaments.
Camilo Villegas: 25-1 odds at BodogLife.com – If you didn’t know who this guy was before, you know now. He posted a 65 last week at the British Open in some of the worst conditions I have seen. He is getting better and better and his talent is unquestioned. I think it comes all together this week. He finished third at the AT&T Classic back in May and Mr. Villegas is in a great spot for us to cash in a nice paycheck at 25-1 odds. With a thinned out field, Villegas has an excellent chance to post the best scores of the weekend.
Carl Pettersson: 40-1 odds at BodogLife.com – With the season this guy has had, there is no way that he should be getting overlooked this strongly by oddsmakers. This undervalued golfer gives us a great opportunity to capitalize on a line mistake. Pettersson’s up and down play keeps the oddsmakers at bay, but it cannot be taken lightly that he has four top ten finishes this season. After a rough Travelers Championship and missing the cut at the John Deere Classic, we expect Pettersson to get right back in the thick of things here.
