College Bowl Predictions2008 Capital One Bowl Odds & PredictionsThe 2008 Capital One Bowl will have a couple of teams that were ranked in the preseason top 5. Both Florida and Michigan had high hopes coming into this season and were supposed to be playing in BCS games, but both teams suffered setbacks early in the year and now are playing on New Year's Day. The Capital One Bowl will take place on January 1st, 2008 at 1 PM EST from Orlando, Florida with the televised broadcast being available on ABC. This game was formerly known as the Citrus Bowl and the Tangerine Bowl and has a history dating back to 1947. In recent years this has been known as one of the best bowl games due to the close games between highly respected, competitive schools.
Michigan is hoping that string of competitive games continues as they come in as a double digit underdog. Michigan fans were disappointed with the team's 8-4 straight up (SU) and 6-5 against the spread (ATS) record this year so gone is Lloyd Carr and taking his place will be the highly touted Rich Rodriquez. A lot of the problems the Wolverines faced this year came down to injuries and what appeared to be a lack of speed. Appalachian State and Oregon both had faster players on the field and the results were a couple of embarrassing losses for Michigan. Then it doesn't help when your top two seniors in Mike Hart and Chad Henne get banged up and miss some time. All in all though the team did look pretty good in rattling off eight straight wins after those two losses and before they met up with superior foes in Wisconsin and Ohio State. The offense is pretty balanced, but the defense has been giving up way too many yards against the run at 150.8 yards per game (ypg). That's not good news when you are going against a Florida team that can run the ball and has a juggernaut of an offense. Florida comes into this matchup at 9-3 SU and 8-3 ATS. They averaged more than 43 ppg while only allowing the opposition to score 24.2 ppg. The offense can throw and run the ball with Tim Tebow leading the way. The Heisman Trophy winner had a monster year to remember this year in his sophomore campaign and it's tough not to see him torching this Wolverine defense. Defensively the Gators are a little bit weaker against the pass than they are the run, which could cause a problem with Henne back to full strength and a talented receiving corps. However, the Gators have looked too good as they matured through the end of the season, covering their last four games in which they were frequently favored by double digits against the likes of Florida State, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt. Can they cover the double digits once again? Maybe, but with Michigan healthy they could put up one hell of a fight in this game. Interesting Trends: Michigan is 4-2 ATS over their last six games Florida is 6-1 ATS in their last 8 games and 16-3 SU over their
