Cleveland Cavs Odds to Win the 2008 NBA Finals
Lebron James took the
Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Finals last
season much sooner than most experts expected
him to get there. The question now is how soon
will he be able to get back? Find out if Jimmy
Boyd thinks the Cavs have a shot at winning it
all in this 2008 Cleveland Cavaliers odds to
win the NBA Finals preview.

Why they'll win it all:
Lebron James is the reason why the Cavs have a
shot. He is one of the few players in league
history to average over 30 points, seven
assists, and seven rebounds per game for a
season. He has the ability to single handedly
take over a game, putting his team on his back,
as we saw in last year's playoffs when the Cavs
shocked the Pistons in the Eastern Conference
Finals. Zydrunas Ilgauskas is one of the best
big men in the Eastern Conference and now that
Ben Wallace is on his team, it takes pressure
off of Big Z defensively. Daniel Gibson's
ability to knock down three point shots also
makes the Cavs very dangerous. He came up big in
the postseason a year ago and if he can knock
down shots again, the Cavs will be tough to
stop. Teams must respect Lebron's ability to get
to the basket so Gibson should get good looks
off of Lebron's penetration. Cleveland is a
solid defensive team ranking in the top 10 in
points allowed and three-point defense. The Cavs
rank a respectable 11th in defensive rebounding
and field goal percentage defense.
Why they won't:
The Cavs are very inconsistent offensively.
Lebron always brings his "A" game, but the
Cleveland role players are on and off like a
light switch. Inconsistent teams are never a
good bet to win a title. The Cavs dealt away
scoring threat Larry Hughes and high energy play
Drew Gooden to pick up Ben Wallace most notably.
However, I'm not sure he brings enough
defensively to make up for what the Cavs have
lost on offense. This deal seems to have put
even more pressure on Lebron to score the
basketball. Lebron is wearing down and should
probably be resting down the stretch. He refuses
to sit as he wants to make sure the Cavs can
keep the fourth seed in the playoffs. A banged
up Lebron, who is physically drained, will not
give the Cavs a very good chance at getting back
to the finals. Also, the Cavs are just 17-22 on
the road this season. If they take on the
Pistons, Celtics, or even the Magic in the
playoffs, teams which would have home court, the
Cavs will not be in good shape. While Cleveland
has arguably the best player in the Eastern
Conference, it does not have the best team. It
will take next to a miracle for the Cavs to get
back to the Finals in my opinion.
