2008 College Football Season Win Total Picks

Written by Jimmy Boyd

Jimmy Boyd has dissected every college football team in his 2008 college football predictions and now he is ready to deliver a few futures winners with his 2008 college football win totals. Jimmy has uncovered five Over/Under bets that have a great opportunity of cashing in this season.

Arkansas Razorbacks – Bet UNDER 6 wins at BetUS.com

New head coach Bobby Petrino was a good hire, but no magician could pull off a .500 season with this Arkansas team which just lost offensive weapons Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, and Marcus Monk. The Razorbacks went just 8-4 with a loaded roster and will face an even more challenging schedule without it. Western Illinois and UL-Monroe should be two wins to start the season, but after that, the Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State games are the only ones which look winnable (two of those are on the road). Be prepared for a long year Razorbacks fans.

Fresno State Bulldogs – Bet OVER 8.5 wins at BetUS.com

The Bulldogs finished 8-4 in the regular season a year ago and they’ll be even better in 2008. With 10 returning offensive starters, the dogs will be tough to stop again. They’ll roll through the WAC with their only potential loss coming at Boise State in their last regular season game. Rutgers, Wisconsin, and UCLA are formidable non-conference foes, but I like Fresno State to win at least one of these games, likely against Rutgers. A 9-3 season appears easily within reach and we could see 10-2.

Michigan Wolverines – Bet UNDER 8 wins at BetUS.com

It appears Big Blue is getting too much respect with this number, especially considering all that the team has lost. There will be no Chad Henne under center or Mike Hart in the backfield or either of the team’s two top receivers from 2007. Left tackle Jake Long is gone and so is backup QB Ryan Mallett. The cupboard is very bare by Michigan standards and the existing kids are going to have to learn a completely new system under new head coach Rich Rodriguez. 6-6 appears to be the best the Wolverines can hope for.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Bet UNDER 7 wins at BetUS.com

The Irish will be better than they were in a dismal 3-9 2007 campaign, but not four wins better. Like Michigan, the Irish are getting their natural historic inflation here. The offensive line is a major weak spot on this team. It allowed a school-record 58 sacks last season and QB Jimmy Clausen will likely be running for his life again. Syracuse and San Diego State are the only guarantees.

Purdue Boilermakers – Bet UNDER 7 wins at BetUS.com

Purdue has one of the conferences best QB’s in Curtis Painter. He was able to lead the Boilermakers to an 8-win regular season in 2007, but major hits on the offensive line, and the loss of most of Painter’s targets will cause this team to drop off. My best guess is that Painter will try to do too much to keep the Boilermakers in games and will make costly decisions in the process. Having to play at Notre Dame, at Ohio State, at Michigan State, and at Iowa will be no walks in the park. Besides those games, beating Oregon, Penn State, and Michigan will be very difficult. .500 is the best possible scenario for Purdue.
