2008 Crowne Plaza Invitational Predictions & Odds

The big names on the PGA Tour get back in the saddle this week at the 2008 Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial Golf and Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Many of the top pros, including Phil "Lefty" Mickelson, took last week off at the AT&T Classic following the Players Championship. Defending Crown Plaza Invitational champ Rory Sabbatini will also be in the field this week as he tries to become the second golfer to win this tournament in consecutive years. The storied Ben Hogan is the only other player to do so, accomplishing the feat back in the early 1950's. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Tiger Woods was never born, Phil Mickelson would be the Tiger Woods of golf right now. In a field without Woods, we have to like Mickelson showing nice value at 10-1 odds. Since posting a fifth place finish at the Masters, Mickelson has not performed well, recording 12th and 21st place finishes in his next two tournaments played. After a week off, I like Lefty to bring his A-game. Lefty won this tourney back in 2000 and I have a feeling he'll take it very seriously this week with the way he has been playing lately.

Perry found the drink with his putter, of all tools, last week which seemingly cost him the tournament. A collapse like that usually does one of two things – it spurs on a bounce back effort or it encourages and even bigger letdown. In this case, I like Perry to bounce back strong on a course which has suited him quite well. Perry has two wins at Colonial, in 2003 and 2005, and with the quality golf that he is playing coming into this tournament, he is a solid choice at 20-1 odds.

Ryuji Imada got his first career PGA Tour win last week and Perez is a guy who has a great shot to do the same this week. He's been up and down this season, but cracking the top three and challenging for the win is a great possibility. He has two top ten finishes this season, one was a 4th place at the Sony Open. Perez finished 4th in this tournament last season and you can bet that he's coming back believing he can win. A small wager on this fella can produce a big payout this week.
