Predictions2008 Final Four
Predictions
Now that Jimmy has taken you through each region, highlighting the teams he
likes to advance to the Final Four, it’s time to see who he likes to cut down
the nets in San Antonio. Find out who Jimmy Boyd is crowning the national
champion in this 2008 Final Four predictions article.
#1 North Carolina (East Region) versus #1 Kansas (Midwest Region)
This is an intriguing matchup with Roy Williams facing off against his former
school. Both teams return almost all of their key players from teams which made
the Elite Eight in 2007, both teams like to run and gun, and both teams are well
coached. So who has the edge in this matchup of two teams which are really a lot
alike? It’s the North Carolina Tar Heels. I look to Kansas matchups with Texas
this season to expose its weakness. Teams with great guards have given the
Jayhawks trouble. Ty Lawson is the type of player, like D.J. Augustin, that can
get in the lane and break down a defense. While Hansbrough will do his thing, it
will Lawson that lifts the Heels over the Jayhaws. Now read our

Final Four Predictions.
#3 Stanford (South Region) versus #1 UCLA (West Region)
These two teams have given us three of the best games in college basketball this
season when they met in two regular season games and in the Pac-10 Conference
championship game. The Pac 10 was the best conference in America this season so
I am not at all surprised to see this matchup for a fourth time this season.
UCLA has found a way to sneak by in all three of the previous meetings, and I
think they will again. While Stanford’s Lopez twins have had some success
against the Bruins, Stanford does not have an answer for Darren Collison.
Collison, perhaps most clutch player in the tournament, will be the difference
maker again. Read our updated

National Championship Game - #1 North Carolina versus #1 UCLA
We saw two #1 seeds meet in the national championship game a year ago and we’ll
see it again here. The addition of Kevin Love is the biggest reason why the
Bruins will have made it back to this stage, but it’s the other big man in this
game that will elevate the Tar Heels to a national title. Tyler Hansbrough has
the heart of a lion. He does more in every area of the game than any player in
the country. You saw the way he willed his team to victory against Virginia Tech
in the ACC Tournament Semis. That was just another example of the fight that he
has. Lawson’s size and strength will be hard for Collison to deal with as well,
so I’ll give the nod to Carolina at the point guard position also. Ultimately,
Carolina’s ability to play more physically inside has me siding with the Heels.
In addition, Roy Williams has proven to be a better coach in big games.
