Home » 2008 Indy 500 DriversWith as popular as NASCAR is, some of you race fans might not be as
familiar with who the Indy drivers are, outside of little miss Danica
Patrick. So with this article, I want to get you up to speed on the
potential 2008 Indy 500 drivers, and I'll list out for you past winners and
some good rookies. I'll go one step further and let you in on some of their
racing accomplishments so that you begin to get a feel for how qualified to
have a chance at winning the Indy 500.
Previous Indy 500 winners Dan Wheldon, Chip Ganassi Racing Wheldon has 3 top three finishes in the Indy 500 the past 4 years with a win in 2005. That was also the year that he won the Indy Racing League crown. Wheldon is the pride of Ganassi Racing with 14 wins in his 7 year career. Wheldon will be among the favorites to win Indy again in 2008. Helio Castroneves, Team Penske Helio knows the Indy track well and became won of only five drivers to win the Indy 500 in consecutive years when he did so in 2001 and 2002. He followed those up with a runner up finish in 2003 and he came in third last year. The veteran will most definitely be a force to be reckoned with again this year. Buddy Rice, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Buddy Lazier, Hemelgarn Johnson Racing Returning Drivers Scott Dixon, Chip Ganassi Racing Dixon won the IRL back in 2003 in his very first attempt and is your favorite 2008 Indy 500 favorite at BodogLife. Dixon finished runner up to Dario Franchitti in last year's edition and no one can doubt that he'll be going after that checkered flag with a chip on his shoulder this year. Danica Patrick, Andretti Green Racing She is the most recognizable figure in Indy racing today, unfortunately it is for her sex appeal more so than her driving, but she did prove herself by becoming the first woman to win an Indy Car race when she took the Japan 300 this year. Patrick ran eighth in last year's Indy 500 and would certainly make history by winning it. She is far from a long shot at 9-1 odds at BodogLife. A.J.
