College Bowl Predictions2008 International Bowl Odds & PredictionsThe 2008 International Bowl comes at you once again from Toronto, Ontario, Canada on January 5th, 2008. The game between Rutgers and Ball State will take place at 12 PM EST on ESPN2. Last year was the first edition of this event and it marked the first postseason game to be played outside of the United State since 1937 when Auburn and Villanova played the Bicardi Bowl in Havanna. Both Ball State and Rutgers have seen their programs improve in recent years and their fan base has become excited. One drawback to that is other schools taking notice of the good work done by their head coaches and now they are trying to hire them away. Ball State is playing their first postseason game in 11 years, and getting here seems like quite the achievement for head coach Brady Hoke. The 7-5 Cardinals are just 0-3 against BCS caliber conferences though, and that's a big reason why they are double digit underdogs in this one. They did however almost knock off Nebraska in Lincoln in an exciting 41-40 contest early in the year. This is a prolific passing team that gains 284.4 ypg through the air on their way to 31.6 points per game (ppg). Dante Love is a talented receiver who has 1,226 receiving yards on the year, ranked 8th in the nation. Rutgers is going to be a tough test for Love though, as the Scarlet Knights are allowing only 160.6 ypg through the air, that has become even stingier over the last three contests when Rutgers lowered that number to 150. The offense for Rutgers isn't to be taken lightly either. They are 36thin the nation with 437.2 ypg and were held under 20 points just two times this year. What makes this team special is the balance they have. Ray Rice is third in the country in rushing yards with seven more yards and five more touchdowns that Heisman runner-up Darren McFadden. Mike Teel is the leader of the passing game who amassed 2,844 yards passing this year with a pair of talented catchers in Kenny Britt and Tiquan Underwood. Rutgers is headed to its third straight bowl game, and Greg Shiano has done great things for a Scarlet Knight team that struggled to 1-5 in the Big East just three short years ago. Interesting Trends: Ball State is 4-2 over their last six games Rutgers is just 1-4 ATS over their last five games and 18-7 overall in their last 25 Oddsmakers predicted score: Ball State Cardinals 25 2008 International Bowl Odds: Ball State Cardinals
