Betting Guide
Jimmy Boyd's 2008 Kentucky Derby betting guide is
here to help get you acquainted with the different types of wagers that can
be made. If you are new to wagering on horses, this is a great article to
get you up to speed in a hurry and have you feeling one hundred percent
confident in making your first ever horse racing bets on this year's
Kentucky Derby.

The simplest horse racing bet
to place is a win bet. A win bet is simply a bet on which horse you think
will win the race. So if you think Derby favorite Big Brown has it in the
bag, place your win bet on him and collect your cash reward.
Another simple bet is a place bet. This wager will improve your chances of
winning so naturally it doesn't pay as well as a win bet. For this bet, you
select which horse you think will come in first or second. It gives you a
larger margin of error and is a safer way to bet the Derby if you're not
completely sold on any one horse.
A show bet is the other form of horse racing straight bets. As you might
have guessed by now, it is a bet on which horse you feel will come in first,
second, or third. With this bet and the place bet, you will receive more
money with the higher place your horse finishes in. For example, first place
pays more than second and second more than third.
If you have never placed any horse racing bets before, these three straight
bets are a good place to start for your
Kentucky Derby betting.
Horse racing vets will likely be dabbling in some exotic wagers. Exotic bets
are more complex than the above straight bets, and they are a popular option
for those who follow horse racing closely.
The Quinella exotic bet requires you to pick the first two finishing horses
in any order to cash the bet. For example, if you select horses number 3 and
5 to win and place and that is what happens in either order, you cash the
bet. I guess it doesn't sound that difficult does it.
The Exacta bet is exactly like the Quinella except that it requires you to
pick the top two finishing horses in the exact order you feel they will
finish. And naturally, because it's harder to do, it pays out more than the
Quinella.
The Trifecta is another form of exotic bet which is very difficult to pull
off as you must pick the top three finishing horse in the exact order you
feel they will finish. Jimmy Boyd pulled off this feat in last year's
Belmont Stakes and let's just say that his clients were quite pleased.
The last type of exotic bet is the Daily Double. It involves picking the
winning horse in two consecutive races.
Make sure you check out Jimmy's

predictions to see which horses are favored in this year's field and to
see how he has them stacking up. This will be a good guide to help you with
your Kentucky Derby betting this year.
I recommend you do a little research and place a show bet for the upcoming
Kentucky Derby if nothing else. You may also want to get together with some
friends, pool your money, and try an exotic bet. Get together have some
beers, place some bets, and you'll be doing it every year from here on out.
There's a reason why 150,000 fans head to Churchill Downs every year – it's
a lot of fun!
Most of us aren't able to do our Derby betting on site, so we recommend
doing it from the comfort of your own home at
