2008 NBA Draft Early Entrys

Written by Jimmy Boyd on June 4, 2008

I gave you my top ten early NBA draft entrys in part one and now I’ll give you some other possible first rounds picks in this article for all you NBA junkies out there. With no further ado, here is part two of my NBA Draft early entrys preview.

DeAndre Jordan, C, Texas A&M
Jordan is a man down low with great size and strength with athletic ability to match, but he likely slides out of the top ten because he is so unpolished on both ends of the floor. Because of his lack of production in the second half of the season, he’ll need to have some good workouts to raise his stock. If he is able to do, he could be a top ten selection.

Marreese Speights, F/C, Florida
Speights doesn’t do anything spectacular, but he is very effective as a low post scorer and rebounder. Scouts question his conditioning, but he is projected as a late lottery pick to mid first rounder on most boards.

Kosta Koufos, C, Ohio State
Because of his skill-set, Koufos began his freshman season projected as a top 10 prospect. His perimeter skills liken him to players like Dirk Nowitzy. But his athleticism doesn’t jump out and grab you and he is not a proven rebounder so we expect him to drop to the late-lottery/mid first round range.

Chase Budinger, G/F, Arizona
I don’t think Chase Budinger’s potential has yet been fully tapped. This big with guard skills can shoot the lights out and because he relies on his shot so heavily, many don’t even realize how good of an athlete he is. But NBA GMs know and many of them still see him with lottery potential.

Darrell Arthur, PF, Kansas
I thought of Arthur as a lottery pick prior to last season with his size and ability to run the floor. He has proven to be a great scorer and even has a nice mid range game, but a season full of inconsistency may cause him to slip to the mid first round. While some might argue that he simply deferred to the other talented players on the Kansas roster, NBA scouts won’t see it that way as he will be put in the same boat when he makes the league.

Joe Alexander, F, West Virginia
Alexander could be the first round sleeper that Josh Howard was for the Mavs. He’s a very athletic forward who has the ability to shoot off the dribble. He, perhaps, has the best mid-range game of anyone projected in the first round. He must learn defense, but there is no question about his physical tools.

Chris Douglas-Roberts, G/F, Memphis
CDR is smooth on the offensive end, reminding me of Ray Allen at times. He’s a scoring specialist and may become an offensive-minded sixth man in the NBA.

Donte Greene, F, Syracuse
Scouts love Greene’s length and athletic ability. He’s a versatile big who can score both inside and out, but hitting a wall midseason for the Orange has hurt his draft stock. Still, he is talented enough for teams to look at in the mid first round.

Brandon Rush, SG, Kansas
Rush has entered the draft twice before, as a high school senior and again last season when he suffered an injury during workouts. I think the third time will be a charm for the guy highly regarded as Kansas’ best all around player. He reminds me of Scottie Pippen, but only time will tell if his career ends as accomplished.

Richard Hendrix, F. Alabama
Hendrix has an excellent NBA body and put up big numbers in the SEC last season, but the almighty scouts are not completely sold on him yet. They think he may be undersized for his position, but then again, he could be another Charles Barkley.
